About the Naryab Valley Guide

The geography, stone fruit orchards, historic heritage, and daily life of Naryab in Tehsil Thall, Hangu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Our Mission & Purpose

Tucked against the rugged southern ridges of the Orakzai borderland in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naryab is celebrated for its freshwater mountain streams, century old terraced orchards, and the tranquil reservoir of Naryab Dam. Yet for decades, authoritative public records, accurate geographical maps, and nuanced civic reporting for the valley have remained scarce online.

This portal was founded to bridge that gap. We provide a thorough, unbiased, and beautifully curated record of Naryab, serving travelers planning their visit, community members living at home and across the diaspora, and researchers studying mountain agrarian communities in Pakistan.

Geographic & Administrative Profile

Administratively, Naryab forms Union Council 16 within Tehsil Thall of Hangu District, under the Kohat Division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sitting at an average elevation of 969 meters (3,179 feet) above sea level, the valley enjoys distinctly cooler summers and crisper winters than the lower plains of Punjab or southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The settlement is fed by historic perennial mountain springs (historically referred to in Pashto as Narai Obe, or "narrow waters"), creating an emerald green oasis of plum, apricot, peach, and walnut orchards surrounded by rugged sandstone hills.
